December 5 - Another Sea Day

This is the first of 4 more sea days. Last night we went to a specialty restaurant, The Catch. Yes, it's a fish and seafood restaurant,  but they have steak. The bread was to die for. They had butter and a goat cheese spread. I'd go back just for the bread. I missed taking any pictures of the spreads and I should have. They were so beautifully presented.

The Catch

Pat had the red snapper for his main and I had the steak and lobster with 2 filets and no lobster. I should have just had one filet... I know I can't eat all that. I like my meat well done, I always ask them to butterfly my filets so they can cook them like I like them. My apologies in advance to those of you who think it's herecy to cook meat well done.

For dessert, Pat had sorbet and I had crepes suzette.

Zumba and Tai Chi

There are Zumba and Thi Chi classes every morning. I need to start going to those.  Maybe I'll alternate days. My online fitness lady is taking a few days off.  I can always do a recording, but I prefer a "live" class.

Drama, Drama

Got a email from Lima Tours (they are the tour company managing the land portion of out tour) this morning saying Pat's passport had expired and that is the one they used to book his Macchu Picchu ticket months ago and he needed to bring a copy or picture of it.  Somehow they had his US passport on file and not his Canadian passport. His US passport is expired and he is no longer a US citizen.  This threw us for a bit of a loop, so it's off to guest services.  Somehow they had 3 passports on file for him. A US passport a BR (we don't know what that is) passport and a Canadian passport (that they added when he checked in on the ship).  So he still needs his old US passport or picture of passport for Macchu Picchu and his valid Canadian passport. Fortunately, my husband keeps documents and he has a picture of his expired US passport on his phone! We should be good, but that could have been a show stopper for him!

My Own Drama

I found another way to use up my on board credit - visit the medical center. I woke up in the morning with a wicked sore throat.  Figured it was because I slept on my back with my mouth open. Warning - this part is descriptive and if you are squeamish you might pass. I felt like I had some phlegm caught in my throat and tried to cough it up. I was unsuccessful,  but I could feel it right at the top of my throat, so I tried grabbing it. More coughing and gagging to no success, but I could feel this mass at the base of my tongue. Tried to grab it again. No luck, but now I've got blood all over my tongue. I came to realize this thing is attached that's why I can't cough it up. Okay, ask Dr. Pat to look at my throat. Using his phone flashlight, he can't see anything. Needed to find something to use as a tongue depressed. OK, try to ignore it for now.  I'm afraid I'm going to choke to death, so yogurt for breakfast, mashed potatoes for lunch. We are at early afternoon now and I cough this mass to the front of my throat and get Dr. Pat to look again. This time his response is "you have to go to the medical center".  Medical center just closed and doesn't open until 3 pm.

Laundry

To occupy myself, I decide it's time to do some laundry.  We do have free laundry if we want to send it out, but there are so many elites on board, it takes 4 days to get back. I don't mind doing my own; our room is almost right across from the laundry room and everytime I have to go to guest services, I request laundry tokens (on some ships they give them to elites, others they don't).  Couple loads of laundry later....

On a ship, it's not diamonds that are a girls best friend, but magnets. The cabin walls and ceiling are metal so bringing magnets to hang laundry to dry, papers off the desk, hats, etc. works great. While doing laundry, I was chatting with a couple - first day on the ship, he put 20 dollars into a slot machine, played 1 dollar and won 12,000! Some people are lucky!

Off to the Medical Center

So, vitals all normal, but my uvula is swollen. Usually this is caused by an infection (but no fever, so not likely) or an irritation, like a chicken bone or something caught in your throat. I don't recall any irritation or it could be an infection caught really early. The Dr. said it was unusual.  I asked if it was unusual enough to be on Dr. Odyssey.  Well, that is another conversation.  I now have a regiment of a aspirin gargle, throat numbing spray and amoxacillin clauvulinic acid. Which, she admitted was a bit of overkill, but since we are at sea for 4 days, better to error on the side of caution.

I haven't looked at my bill yet to find out how much on board credit I managed to consume!

Later folks!

Comments

  1. Can you actually use onboard credit on medical services??? That’s better than most US healthcare.

  2. Yes, they took it from OBC. 150.00 for the office visit and 99.00 for meds. So 250 US. Not bad considering I really didn't have any options being at sea for 4 days and thinking my windpipe was going to be completely obstructed and I'd suffocate!
